Russian Spaniel
These dogs, as the name suggest is a type of spaniel and again as the name would suggest to any reader, it is said to have originated from Russia. These dogs were said to be first standardised in the year 1951. These dogs were said to be results of a crossing between dog breeds like the English Cocker Spaniel, English Springer Spaniel and also some other spaniel breed of dogs. If you look at these Russian spaniels in a physical way, they are quite similar to the Cocker spaniel but has a little minute difference like, these dogs are a little shorter than the Cocker spaniels and the Russian spaniels have a shorter coat which is a little tighter when compared to that of the cocker spaniels. The Russian spaniel dogs also have a longer body.
These dogs are said to have developed mainly developed as hunting dogs. The only difference between these dogs and the other spaniel dogs is that these dogs do not tend to suffer from any of the health problems that are normally seen in the other spaniels. These dogs are very rare outside of their native, the Soviet Union and thus are not recognized by any major kennel clubs as of yet. These dogs are quite small when it comes to their size. These small sized dogs are quite sturdy dogs as well. They also have a very short coat. Their short coat is also very tight in nature and also quite silky. They tend to have a lot of feathering on a few parts of their body. These parts are usually the ears and the legs of the dogs. Their coats however do not have only one specific color as such.
Their coat colors may vary from a large range if colors. Their coat colors may include any solid color with a combination of other colors such as white, piebald, black and tan. The heads and the ears of these dogs are generally darker when compared to the color of the coat on the rest of their body. These dogs when fed properly and rpt healthy and fit can weigh up to a minimum of 28 pounds and a maximum of about 40 inches and when these dogs are given proper exercise and taken care of properly, can grow up to a minimum of 15 inches and a maximum of 17 inches in height at their withers. Both the females and the males of these dogs are quite similar in their heights and weights unlike other breeds where the females are usually a little smaller then the males.
These dogs were primarily bred as hunting dogs, and these dogs are best suited for hunting in the marsh lands, the fields and the woodlands. These dogs are very friendly in nature. These dogs make lovely companion dogs as they are very loving and affectionate, especially towards their families. These dogs are very pleasant with all other dogs as well and thus do very well when left with them. These dogs are said to be very intelligent and thus it is quite easy to train these dogs.
