Russkiy Toy

These dogs are also known as the Russian toy. These dogs are very small in size. These dogs are said to have originated from the country of Russia. It is also most commonly said that these dogs were developed for the original English Toy terrier. These dogs originally existed in two types. One type being the one with a very smooth hair or a very smooth coat and the other type being the one with a very long hair or a long coat. It was only recently that both these dogs were brought together under the same breed name, that is, Russkiy toy. This happened as recent as in the years 2000. These dogs were nearly wiped out from the face of the earth’s surface not only once but two times. The first time this happened, it was the result of the rise of the communism in the 1920s, and the dog was nearly extinct because of the dogs’ connection with the aristocracy.

The second time that this happened was due to the influx of all the foreign breed of dogs which followed the fall of Iron curtain. Until almost the 1990s, these dogs still remained unknown to all countries outside to its native, Russia. Not a lot of details or information about the dogs’ health issues is known either. All that is clearly known is the fact that these dogs were mainly raised, bred and developed by the breeders for the purpose of hunting animals like the rats and also these dogs were bred as rat fighters. These dogs other than being used as rat fighting dogs were also used as watch dogs. These dogs are known to be very friendly animals. These extremely friendly animals also have the tendency to get very strongly attached to its family members.

These dogs are said to be one of the smallest breed of dogs amongst all the breed of dogs in the world. These dogs are so small that in height they grow up to be only a minimum of 8 inches and a maximum of only about 10 inches and these dogs are equally light in weight as well. In their weight, they can grow up to a minimum of 3 pounds and a maximum of roughly about 6 pounds. They have quite a small head when compared to the size of the rest of their body. But these small sized head have in them a pair of quite large sized eyes.

These large sized eyes are triangular when it comes to their shape. When the tails of these dogs are allowed to grow fully without docking them, the tails will grow to form a sickle shape and curved up in nature. These dogs can be classified in to 2 types, based on the nature of their coats. One will be a dog with a smooth coat and other would be a dog with a log haired coat. There are only a few differences between these two dogs. One of them quite obviously is their coat.
