Russo-European Laika

These dogs, as the name suggests are said to have originated from the country of Russia. The word laika in Russian means barker. The word laika is used to refer to hunting dogs as well as sled dogs too. This dog gained its world wide popularity when it became the first dog to be taken in to space. These dogs are of 3 further types, they are the west Siberian laika, the east Siberian laika and the Russo European laika. These dogs are said to be one of those dogs that were said to be developed from the ancient spitz type of dog. These dogs were quite medium in size. They had lean bodies. These lean bodies of theirs however were very compact in nature as well.

Their bodies were of a very impressive whit color. Their coats did also sometimes appear in other colors like grey and black as well. The females of this breed if dogs are generally smaller in size then the males of the breed. The males when fully grown and taken well care of and given proper exercise, will grow up to a minimum of 21 inches to a maximum of 23 inches in height at their withers, the females on the other hand grew up to a minimum of 19 inches to a maximum of 22 inches in height at their withers. These dogs were originally bred for the purpose of being hunting dogs. These dogs are said to have a very strong reflex when it comes to their hunting skills.

These dogs are also very independent, even a puppy of somewhere around 8 months will start working on its own and will show its independent nature. The dogs even when are as small as of 8 months, will start hunting for animals like squirrels and other such animals. These dogs are also said to mature very early and quite faster than dogs of other breed of dogs mature. It just at the age of 10 months tat these dogs can be called as fully grown adult dogs. The female dogs of this breed are said to make very good mothers and are said to take care of their litter very carefully. There litter size may usually contain about 5 to 9 puppies. Even though these dogs are extremely good hunting dogs, they still make very good house pets.

These dogs are said to be very loyal when it comes to their family and their owners. If these dogs are kept as house pets then they will keep the house secure 24 hours a day. These dogs are not very vicious in nature however, if there is an intruder present then these dogs will let their family know that by barking. These dogs have a very strong body that is quite rectangular when it comes to their shape. They have a very well developed bone structure. But just because they have a well developed bone structure, it does mean that these dogs have a very massive look to them.
