Saluki

These dogs also go by the name of Gazelle Hound or even by the name of Persian Hound. These dogs are said to have originated from the area in between eastern Turkestan and the country of Turkey. It is very commonly said that these dogs are related to the Afghan hound dogs. These dogs are quite ancient breed of dogs. It is said that these dogs were considered as royal dogs of the country of Egypt. These dogs are also considered as the one the oldest that was ever domesticated by man. These dogs get their name “saluki”, from the Arabian city with the same name in the middle eaters. This city however does not exist anymore. The bodies of these dogs were found mummified alongside the mummified bodies of the pharaohs.

The Muslims considered these dogs to be the sacred gift given to them y their Allah himself, and in their religion it was punishable to sell these dogs and could be given only as of honour of friendship. Some of these dogs have the presence of a white colored patch in the exact middle of their foreheads; these patches were considered by the Muslims to be the kiss of their god, Allah. These dogs’ were used and hunting dogs by the Arabs, mainly to hunt gazelles, and thus they get their other name. These dogs had the ability to run in extremely fast speeds even in the roughest of all terrains. These dogs were sight hunters. These dogs along with being used for the purpose if hunting gazelles were also used for the purpose of hunting the fastest of all the antelopes and foxes as well. They were also used for hunting jackal and hare as well. These dogs have also been very successful in the field of racing as well. These dogs are very slim in nature. These dogs are grey hound like to look at. They have a very long head which is also equally narrow as well. This long head of theirs is quite wide in between their ears. Their head gradually tapers toward their nose and comes to quite a soft stop. Their noses were either black or may be sometimes even liver in color.

Their teeth usually meet to form a level bite. They have a pair of large sized eyes that are quite oval like in shape. Their eye color may range from dark to hazel. They also have a long pair of ears that are quite mobile in nature. These ears of theirs tend to hand down low close to their heads. They have a pair of extremely straight front legs. They also have a very long neck. Their chests are usually deep as well as equally narrow in nature. Their feet have a presence of a lot of hair in between their toes; this presence of a lot of hair in between their toes is for the purpose of protecting their feet from th4 rough terrain. They have a very long tail which is held quite low.
