SARPLANINAC

This Yugoslavian shepherd is an ancient breed raised in the Sharplanina mountain areas. Their backgrounds probably come from the crossings between Asian and European shepherds, during the different migrations.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the SARPLANINAC
It is very proportioned, robust and compact; it goes about 62 cm in height in males and up to 58 cm in females, weighing 45 to 40 kg respectively. The head is very proportionate, the muzzle is wide and deep, the nose is black, the eyes are medium, dark and almond shaped and the ears are medium sized, V shaped, covered in dense fur. The fur is long in most of the bodies except for the head, where it is short and dense; it can go from white to black, going through more or less intense brown and a range of grays.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the SARPLANINAC
It is easy to train, moderate and serene. It takes its guardian job very seriously, without ever being aggressive. It is very loyal and trustworthy. Although its natural environment is the country, it adapts well to a garden and even a flat, however, this last hypothesis is not ideal.

The skin is medium thickness, smooth on the entire body and without forming a traditional double chin. The visible mucous are black or very dark.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a SARPLANINAC
It requires minimal brushing to keep its fur clean, which is very thick. Exercise needs to be daily and prolonged, since it doesn’t like to be still for a very long time.
