Scotch Collie

These dogs are originally of two types. These two types are called as the smooth collie and the rough collie. These dogs are said to have originated from Scotland. These dogs were bred and developed mainly for the purpose of being used as herd dogs. The origin or the histories of these dogs are not very clear and are not completely known to man. These dogs even now are still used for the same purpose that they were originally bred and developed that is the purpose of being used as herding dogs. However, the breed standard can vary depending on a few factors. One of these factors that decide the breed standard for the dogs is the purpose for breeding the dog.

If the dog is breed for the purpose of performing the job given to it in a very efficient and a very excellent manner then the breed standard for these dogs are different and if these dogs are red primarily to meet the ideal standard in its appearance, then it has a completely different breed standard. These dogs on the whole, were bred mainly to meet the purpose of a show dog. This is due to its very appealing looks and also due to the sudden popularity that these dogs gained. Other collies are used by the farmers and other people for the purpose of herding, such as the Border collie.

These dogs are highly talented dogs and have in them a combination of a lot of talents. Some of the talents that these dogs’ posses are, agility, obedience, fly ball, rally o. These dogs, both the rough type and the smooth type, come in 4 different colors. They are: one, the sable collies. These dogs have a very appealing appearance and are mostly the choice of all the movie producers and directors. Their coat color may range from being light blonde in color to being a deep reddish brown in color. They may also be of any coat color in between these two colors that is any color in between light blonde and deep reddish brown can be accepted as a dog belonging to this category.

Two, are thee dogs that have a mixture of three or more colors in their coat. These three colors may generally and usually be black and white color with a few tan markings here and there all over the body. Three, are the dogs which have a blue merle color. These dogs can also be described as tri colored dogs. They usually are a mixture of black and white color. However, in this mixture of black color and white color, the black color is a little diluted in nature. This dilution in the black color gives them a mottled like gray blue color. The last type are the collies which have a completely white coat or may be a white coat having the combinations of any of the previous types of dogs. In the modern days, these dogs have become very famous and have gained a lot of popularity as therapy dogs.
