Scottish Terrier
The Scottish Terrier dogs were developed in the country of Scotland in somewhere around the 1700s. These dogs were first known by the name Aberdeen terrier. This name was given to them after the town of Aberdeen in Scotland. These dogs were given the nick name as “little diehard” by George, who was the 4th earl of Dumbarton, in the 19th century. Even though these dogs had originated as early as the 1700s, they were brought to the United States only in the 1890s. These dogs were used for the purpose of hunting animals like the rabbits and the badgers these dogs were also used for hunting of otter and fox. This breed of dog was recognized by the American kennel club in the year of 1885.
This is a dog that is quite small in size. They are however, very sturdy dogs. The dogs of this breed have the presence of very short legs and they are groomed in such a way that makes their legs look even shorter. They have quite a long head; however, this long head of theirs is in perfect proportion with the rest of the body of the dog. They also have the presence of quite a long skull. This long skull is slightly domed n nature as well. Their domed and long skull is rather medium in size. This dog has a pair of eyes that are quite small when it comes to their size. These small sized eyes of the dog are shaped like an almond. These almond shaped and small sized eyes are set quite wide apart from each other. These dogs also have the presence of a pair of very erect in nature ears.
These erect pair of ears of the dog is quite high set, that is, these ears are set quite high on their heads. These ears when are pointed are quite prickly in nature. The length of the muzzles of these dogs is quite equal when compared to the length of the skull. This muzzle of the dog comes to a well defined, clear, an abrupt, a soft and a small stop. Their muzzle is slightly tapering toward the nose of the dog. The teeth of the dog usually tend to meet to form a powerful and an equally strong scissor bite, or even a level bite. The backs of these dogs have a very level top line. Their tail is such a way that they are quite thick at the base and tapers towards the end.
These tapering tails are quite medium in size. This medium sized and tapering tail of the dog is covered with short as well as equally hard hair. Their tail is usually and generally carried sometimes straight and some other times in a slightly curved nature. When compared to the back feet of the dog, it can be seen that the front legs of the dog are quite larger in size. These large feet are also are quite round in shape. The declaws of the feet may or may not be removed. These dogs have the presence of a very compact coat. This compact coat is also quite wiry in nature and also quite coarse in nature. These dogs are doubler coated, that is they have the presence of an upper coat and an inner coat. The outer coat is very hard like bristles, while the inner coat is very soft.
