Seppala Siberian Sleddog
Developed for the purpose of pulling a sled in the cold countries, the seppala Siberian sled dog, originates from the country of Siberia. This breed is a very rare to find working breed. They are said to have originated from the amalgam of the sled dogs from a lot of several different regions of the country of Siberia. They get their name from a breeder named Leonhard Seppala, who was mainly responsible for developing this breed of dog. He developed this breed in Alaska and also in Maine; this was during the period in between 1014 and 1930.
They were developed to meet many requirements like freighting, a long distance transport in a dog sled and also for the purpose of sled dog racing. They have a lot of endurance, very high speed and are also very versatile in nature when comes to their work. This dog is a medium sized dog. The males of this breed of dogs are quite larger in size when compared to the size of the female dogs. The mature male, when taken care of properly, will have an average height of about roughly 21 inches to about 25 inches at their withers, and these will weigh up to an approximate range of between 38 pounds to about 65 pounds. These measurements are applicable only for those dogs that are given proper exercise and are healthy and also those dogs that are active and in a working condition.
The mature female dog, has the ability to grow up to about 19 inches to about roughly 23 inches in height at their withers, and will probably weigh in at about anywhere between the given rage of about 30 pounds to 55 pounds. The weight of the dogs should be n proportion with the height of the dog, only then can the dog be called as a healthy dog. If the weight is either more or less when compared to the height of the dog, then this will definitely affect their performance of the dog in the work that it is said to do. When it is viewed from the sideways direction, this dog will appear to be longer in the length of the body than the height of the body.
A dog with a square shaped body is not desirable although it is acceptable. When they are standing, it looks like they are higher at the rear end. They have a very solid body. Their chest is very deep in nature. A dog with a chest extending below the elbows of the dog will not be accepted. They have well sprung ribs that are quite flattened at their sides. They have a rather long back; this helps them to have a very effortless Woking lope. They have very straight legs. The legs are also very well muscled in nature. They are strong yet not heavily boned. The feet of this dog are quite oval in shape and are also rather large is size.
