Sinhala Hound

Sinhala hounds are said to have originated from Sri Lanka. They are also called as Sinhalese Hound. There were some skeletal remains of these dogs found in the caves of Bellanbandi Palassa. Traces of their remains were also found in the caves of Nilgava. These dated back to around 4500 BC, which was during the Mesolithic era. All this evidence suggests that the Balagonda people might have used the Silhana Hound as their pets or to drive prey back in the past. The Kadar dog is very similar in appearance to the Silhana hound; even the Dingo and the New Guinea Dog are quite similar to the Sinhala hound in terms of looks. Many a people do suggest that all these breeds have originated from a particular domestic pet in the past.
