Sloughi
The origin and the history of the dogs of this breed is probably the one with the most speculations. It is very commonly said that the dogs of this breed get their origination from a place called Orient. Orient is now modern called Ethiopia. It is said that the sloughi breed of dogs were one of the only two sight hound dogs that are recognized that originate from Africa. Today however, the dogs of this breed are most commonly found in places like morocco, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia and so on. This dog is very often confused to be a smooth saluki, however, even though the sloughi and the smooth saluki may have a few similarities here and there, they are not similar. These two breed of dogs have been recognized as two different breeds. This dog is also sometimes confused to be the smooth Afghan hound.
The dogs of this breed were most often used for the purpose of hunting. It still retains this ability and is still often used for this purpose of hinting in its native country. Along with being used for the purpose of being a hunting dog, they were used as guard dogs and still are. These dogs prove to be very efficient and excellent guard dogs. As mentioned earlier, this dog is a sight hound which makes it a part of the sight hound family. It has a rather medium sized body. Their coat is also rather short in length. The dogs of this breed have a very strong body. They have a pair of ears that is generally slightly drooping in nature. It is said that the dogs of this breed carry a rather melancholic expression on their faces.
The muscular systems of the dog can be rightly termed as “dry”. This word “dry” means that, this dog has the presence of flat muscles. The word “Dry” is also used to point at the long sized muscles that this dog has. These flat and long muscles however, can never ever be brawny in nature, like most of the grey hounds and the whippets. Their muscles cannot be brawny in nature even if the dogs are in a very good physical condition. The back of the dogs if this breed is practically horizontal in nature. However, the lumbar region should be very slightly vaulted in nature.
The eyes of this dog are usually rather dark brown in color. However, this color may sometimes be shade of amber. The color of the coat of these dogs varies from a large range of colors, that is, the coat color may range from light sand color to red sand color, red color or even mahogany color. These dogs may or may not have the presence of brindles. It is also not acceptable it this dog has a black colored mantle or a black mask on its face. This dog should also never ever have a pair of black colored ears. If the standards are strictly taken into consideration, thus dog is allowed to have a white colored patch on its chest.
