Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer

This breed of dogs is a type of gun dog. The Slovakian rough haired pointer is said to have been developed in Slovakia. These dogs when compared to all the other dogs are relatively a new breed of dogs. They were developed somewhere around the late 1950s. As the consequance of the World War II, there were a lot of major changes in the way of hunting followed by the hunters belonging to Czechoslovakia. A large number of very efficient hunting dogs were lost as a result of the Second World War This gave rise to the need of developing a new breed of hunting dogs that would be if not better, equally efficient as the older hunting dogs.

The new breed of hunting dogs however, would be highly biddable in nature. It was required that this new breed of hunting dogs would have the ability of hunting any kind of prey, ranging from partridges to foxes and everything in between. It was also required that they would be able to work equally efficiently in both water as well as land. That is, it was required by the hunters for these dogs to have the ability to work extremely well in all kinds of terrain, be it a smooth one a very rough tough one. This new breed would be used not only for the purpose if hunting but it would also prove to be useful after the hunt, that is, this dog would also be a very good retriever dog with a exceptional sense of smell.

This breed of dogs, as a result of a crossing between the Weimaraners(they were the best hunting dogs around at that time) and the German Wirehaired pointer dogs and also the Ceski fousek. This is how the Slovakian rough haired pointer came into existence. This dog has not only met but crossed all the expectations by its developers. This dog is extremely good at hunting feathered animals, but along with this, this dog is also very brave and fearless and it will be ready to fight s wild boar any time. This dog also proved out to be good at hunting animals like deer and foxes as well. The body type and other feature are quite similar to the other dogs from which this dog has been developed.

These dogs are working dogs. They have a very noble head. This head has a very well chiselled look. Their skull is rectangular in shape and this comes to a rather moderate stop. They have the presence of a very straight as well as a very broad muzzle. They have the presence of a nose that is black in color. They have pair of eyes that are almond shaped in nature. These pair of eyes is cover with a pair of dark colored eye lids. The eyes are generally azure in the puppies however as they grow and mature, this azure slowly turns into a shade of amber color.
