Spinone Italiano

This dog is not a very common breed to be found in the United States of America. However, they have a very long history of being a lot of help to man. This breed of dog is said to have originated from the country of Italy. In Italy, this dog was considered as the all purpose dog by all the hunters. It is a very common belief that this dag was the result of a crossing between different breeds of dogs such as the white mastiff dog, French griffon dogs and the coarse haired Italian setter dogs. These coarse haired dogs were left back in Italy by the Greek traders. And the other two dogs were said to be from the Adriatic coast.

However, this is not scientifically proven. This uncertain origination of this dog however, seems to centre on Europe. It is not clearly known if this dog was developed from the existing gun dogs or they were developed from the common stock of dogs. This dog is a very ancient dog, which is quite like sll the other breed of dogs that took their origination from the country of Italy. This dog is known for its exceptional scenting abilities. Along with its exceptional scenting abilities, they are also blessed with a great retrieving, recovering and setting abilities as well. These dogs are known to have very close ties with all the hunters. For many centuries now, this dog has also reached an excellent reputation as being a pointer dog.

Today, this dog is used for the purpose of hunting as well as a pet. This breed of dog however was only recently recognized by the American kennel club, that it, this dog gained official recognition and proper standards only in the year of 2000.This dog goes around by quite a lot of other names, such as the spinone, the Italian spinone or sometimes even as the Italian griffon. This dog is a very large dog. This large dog has a rather rugged look to it. This dog has the presence of a head that is quite long in size. This long head in it has the presence of a muzzle that, when viewed from the sideways direction. Looks like a square. The length of this square shaped muzzle is quite equal to the length of the back of the skull of the dog.

This muzzle comes to stop that is very light in nature. The dogs of this breed have the presence of a very large nose which has a pair wide and open nostrils. The color of the nose depends on the color of the coat of the dog. In dogs that have a white colored coat, the color of the nose is flesh colored. In the other dogs that have a white and an orange colored coat, the nose is generally darker in color. In the dogs that have a brown colored coat or a brown roan colored coat, the nose is usually brown in color.
