Sporting Lucas Terrier

This dog is a low stationed type of a dog. It is also very sturdy in nature. Along with being low stationed and sturdy, it is also very well boned and compact. Even though the dog is compact, it has a very free movement and this dog is a very free working terrier. This dog has a height of about 12 inches at the withers. This dog is a double coated dog. Double coated dogs are those dogs that have the presence of two different layers of coats, that is, the outer layer called as the outer coat or the upper coat and the layer lying below this outer coat or the upper coat, called as the inner coat or the under coat. In this breed, the dogs have an outer coat that is wiry in nature and the inner coat is thick as well as equally dense in nature. The head of the dog is such that it is perfect proportion when compared to the size of the body of the dog.

This perfectly proportional head has a very broad skull inside it. This head also has the presence of a pair of ears that are half pricked up in nature. This half pricked up ears are set quite high on their heads. They have tail which is also rather high set on the back of their bodies. These dogs usually come with a predominantly white colored coat with a few dark patches here and there on their body. If not this then the dogs have a dark colored coat with the presence of small white spots on their body. The spines of the dog are usually very flexible in nature and it also seen that these dogs have a set of very strong and powerful set of jaws. They have very sturdy and equally powerful legs; however, these strong and powerful legs are never heavily boned in nature.

They have very sound feet which have the presence of pads that are well formed in nature. They also have the presence of strong toe nails. These dogs are determined in nature. They are also very self confident. They have other characteristics such as being very lively in nature, alert and also bustling. They are sharp eyed in nature. They are very keen when it comes to hunting. They are very fearless. Physically, this dog is quite robust in nature. They are active and not hyper active.

They have a very strong head. Their ears are set quite wide apart from each other. Their muzzle is such that it tapers slightly to form the nose. The pair of lips that are darkly pigmented. The jaws are built mainly for the purpose of gripping and biting. The dogs of this breed have a set of well developed teeth that are perfectly spaced in nature and also white in color. The set of teeth of these dogs usually meet to form a very powerful scissor bite. The pair of eyes of these dogs is colored in a dark manner. These darkly colored eyes are oval in shape. They are set quite moderately far apart from each other.
