St. Bernard
This dog was discovered in the 980 AD. This dog was discovered by St. Bernard de Menthon, and thus the dog gets its name, st. Bernard. Those st. Bernard breed of dogs after being discovered by the saint himself, were then looked after and bred by the monks. These dogs were further developed into the dogs that they are today by these monks mostly by crossing dogs like the Tibetan mastiff dog, great Dane dogs, greater Swiss mountain dog and the great Pyrenees dogs. The first st. Bernard dogs that were developed were dogs that had the presence of a very short coat. These dogs soon gained popularity as a rescue dog and are now used in a lot of search and rescue missions.
This is a very giant sized dog. They are as strong as they are giant. They are very muscular dogs. The taller the dog, the more they are prized, however, this holds true only and until the weight of the dog is in perfect proportion with the height of the dog. The dogs belonging to this breed have the presence of head; this head is such that it is very massive in nature and size. His massive head of the dog is also as powerful as it is massive. This powerful and massive head has the presence of a muzzle. This muzzle is a rather short when compares to the size of the body of the dog. The width of the muzzle when compared to the length of the muzzle, it can be seen that the muzzle’s width is larger. The dogs belonging to this breed have the presence of very strong set of teeth. These strong sets of teeth generally and usually tend to meet to form sometimes a scissor bite or sometimes even a level bite.
They have the presence of a single nose and this single nose is rather large and also quite broad in size. This large and broad nose has the presence of a pair of wide as well as open nostrils. The pair of lips of the dogs of this breed is black in color; this black color of the lips is due to its heavy dark pigmentation. The dogs have the presence of a pair of eyes that are medium in size. These medium sized pair of eyes is set quite far and wide apart from each other on the either sides of the head. These wide set eyes usually and generally tend to be of a dark color.
The dogs of this breed have the presence of a pair of ears that are also rather medium sized in nature. These medium sized pair of ears is set quite high up on the heads of the dog on either side of the head. They are usually drooping down in nature and are also generally held rather far away from the head of the dog. They have very muscular legs. These legs end with very large feet which have the presence of very strong toes that are very well arched in nature as well.
