STAFFORDSHIRE BULLTERRIER


It originates in Great Britain towards the XVIII, from a bulldog and a terrier, with the intention of getting a smaller and more agile dog fro bull fights and, later, for dog fights, so common in that period. In 1935, a Little after the fight ban, the breed was acknowledged as a company dog in England, quality for which it stands out if appropriately trained. In Great Britain it is affectionately called staffi and still has things in common with the old English bulldog and the terrier, the dogs that gave birth to it. It is one of the most popular company dogs, which it is an excellent play partner for the children and a loyal friend to its master. It shouldn’t be left loose because it likes to pick fights with other dogs.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the STAFFORDSHIRE BULLTERRIER
It is a strong, muscular and flexible dog, with a height to the cross between 35 and 40 cm, and a weight from 12 to 17 kg. It has a large and solid head, the muscles in the face are defined and very evident, and the eyes are round, dark and separate. The nose is bluish black, the jaws are powerful, and the chest is wide and the ears are usually cut. The fur is short, straight and flat against the skin; it can be red, cream colored, white, black or blue, in firm colors or white spots.

Its adaptation to social life is good, as long as it is educated since it is little, especially when socializing with other dogs.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the STAFFORDSHIRE BULLTERRIER
Despite its fame, that proceeds the task it was bred for, it is a trust worthy animal, a friend to its masters and a good companion to the children. Despite it being brave and somewhat bold, it is also loyal and calm. Without a constant and very firm training, the Staffordshire bull terrier it can be a dangerous dog to other animals and not very reliable to strangers. It is evident that, such as other breeds bred to fight in the past, its socialization depends on good training, able to give it perverse effect of training the animal for clandestine fighting that, despite them being prosecuted by the law, prove that there are no dangerous dogs but delinquent owners.

It is not convenient to leave it alone in the garden for a long time: it loves to dig.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a STAFFORDSHIRE BULLTERRIER
Amongst the usual care, a regular brushing is enough for the hair cleanliness. It needs to run a lot, for which this breed is excellent for people that practice running or cycling, since it will find the best sport partner in it.
