SWEDISH LAPLAND DOG

This breed was not officially acknowledged until 1944, originally named Lapphund, which nowadays is bred and developed in the septentorial Swedish areas, but that during centuries has been a part of the life and traditions of the Japanese people. It has the same origin of other medium/large sized spitz that, as time has gone by, has been generically defined as Nordic breeds. Despite its name, currently, it is much more popular in Sweden than its native country.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the SWEDISH LAPLAND DOG
It is a beautiful dog, not too large, potent and very agile. The male’s height is 45 to 50 cm and in females is 40 to 45 cm, with a weigh that goes from 15 to 20 kg. The body is long, the rib cage is arched and the back is straight, the convex skulled head has a well defined stop and the muzzle is straight. The ears, wide at the base, are short and erect. Its fur is abundant, dense, rigid and semi long, black or chestnut, in uniform shades or brown and white.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the SWEDISH LAPLAND DOG
It has a defined, hard working and responsible temperament. It is generous, lively, obedient and affectionate. It accepts training intelligent and obediently, and adapts to family life easily.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a SWEDISH LAPLAND DOG
Its hard fur needs frequent brushing. It is healthy in nature, for which it does not demand special care, as long as it doesn’t live in overly warm weathers and exercises plenty.

The Lapland dog has now spread quite a bit in the septentronial areas of Sweden where it is only used for guarding, while it has almost disappeared from its native areas.
