Tornjak

This dog is said to have originated from the various areas of Herzegovina, Croatia and Bosnia and it has also been said to have been existed in these parts of the world from the past thousand years or so. This is a large sized mountain dog. This dog was originally named as the Kanis montanus but was later named as the tornjak by the native people of its native land. This dog is a rather healthy one and also a very strong natured dog. The dogs of this breed are said to make excellent watch dogs. They are also very easy to own as they have very modest choice for both food as well as for shelter.

As mentioned earlier, this is a very large sized dog and its strength is quite equal to its size, that it, it is a very strong dog. It is a very powerful breed of dog. This dog is a very well proportionate dog. They are also very agile in nature. The dogs of this bred have the presence of a square shaped body. They bones of this dog cannot be called light in nature neither can they be called as heavy, they are rather medium in weight. The bones are not coarse either. The dogs belonging to this breed have the presence of a coat that is very long in nature and is also equally thick in nature. These dogs are very well built in nature. The movements of these dogs can only be rightly termed as harmonious and also very dignified in nature.

The dogs of this breed have the presence of a very thick and a long coat mainly for the purpose of keeping the dogs warm and also to protect the body of the dog against any kind of harsh weather conditions. They have a very shaggy tail and this shaggy tail is usually held up high, almost like the flags are. The dogs are said to have a very high level of self confidence and by looking at the dogs it is also quite clear that these dogs are rather proud of their self confidence. They also have a very calm as well as a serious look to them. Even though the dogs have the presence of long haired coat, they size of the hair on few parts of their body, like their face and legs is smaller when compared to the size of the feathers in the rest of the parts of the body of the dog.

The dogs of this breed are double coated in nature, that is, they have the presence of two different layers of coats. The outer layer is called as the upper layer or the outer layer and the layer lying below this layer is called as the inner layer or the under layer. The top coat of this dog is very dense in nature, it is also coarse and also very straight in nature. The tail of the dog is heavily feathered.
