Toy Fox Terrier

The dogs belonging to the toy fox terrier breed are said to have been developed in the country of the United States of America. They were said to have been developed somewhere around the 1930s. It is also said that the dogs of this breed are the direct descendants of the breed of dog named smooth fox terrier. It is a common belief among the people that this dog came into existence by crossing the breed of dog named the smooth fox terrier with other breeds of dogs such as Italian grey hound breed of dogs, the miniature pinscher breed of dog.

This dog was also crossed with the miniature terrier bred of dog. This however was mostly done for the purpose of getting its miniature size. It is due to its miniature size that this dog is called as a toy dog. The primary purpose of the dog was the purpose of hunting animals, especially rats. Toy fox terrier was officially recognized as a breed by the American kennel club, that is, the AKC, recently in the year of 2003 and it was also in this year of 2003 that proper standards were set for this breed of dogs. The average life expectancy of the dogs of this breed, when they are grown in a very healthy way and are given proper food and proper required amount of daily exercise, is said to be around 13 years to 14 years.

When these dogs are fully grown into perfectly healthy adults, they tend to grow up to a average of 10 inches in height at their withers that is and as long as they are fed proper food and given proper required exercise, they will weigh up to a minimum of roughly around 3 pounds and a maximum of around 7 pounds in weight. This dog, along with the name of toy fox terrier also has a bunch of other names; some of them are American toy terrier or in short the amertoy and so on. The dogs belonging to this group generally have the presence of a nose that is black in color, except for the dogs that are chocolate in color.

For the dogs that are chocolate in color, the nose is generally self coloring in nature, that is, it colors itself so that the color of the nose harmonises perfectly with the color of the coat of the dog. The dogs also have the presence of a pair of round shaped eyes. These round shaped eyes are also usually dark in color. They have the presence of a pair of v shaped ears. These v shaped ears are usually held in an erect manner. The skull of the dog is slightly domed in nature, and the muzzle is usually small in size and also narrow in shape. There is a very definite stop that separates this skull and the muzzle of the dog. The coat of the dog is usually short in size. The coat along with being short is also very thick in nature.
