Welsh Sheepdog
This dog is also sometimes knows by the other name such as the welsh collie. These dogs as the name suggests are herding dogs. The dogs of this breed as the name would suggest are said to have originated from Wales. Like all the other types of breeds of dogs that are used as working dogs, these dogs also were bred mainly for the purpose of herding. These dogs have exceptional herding abilities. They were mainly bred for this quality in them and not based on their looks. These dogs do not have any specific builds as such. That is, different dogs of the same breed mat have different builds.
Even the size and the color of the dog vary from dog to dog. Usually however, the most common coat colors are seen to be a combination of black and white or sometimes a combination of red and white. They may even have a tri colored coat. In some of these color combinations, merle color may also appears. The color combination of the dogs of this breed is quite unpredictable. The coat of the dogs of this breed are generally short in nature, sometimes however, as the qualities in these dogs may vary, some dogs may have the presence of quite long sized coat.
The pair of ears that these dogs have is medium sized in nature. These pricked eras are usually folded either in the inwards direction or the outer direction the tip of the ears. They have quite long sized legs. The chests of the dogs of this breed are quite broad and also equally deep in nature. They have a rather wide shaped muzzle. Their muzzles are even wider than the muzzles of the Border collie breed of dogs. The dogs belonging to this breed have a very high level of intelligence and along with having this rather high level of intelligence, they are also very active in nature and it is due to this high level of activism and the amount of energy they have that these dogs require a lot of exercise on a daily basis. Along with their daily required exercise, they also need a lot of mentally stimulating exercises as well. These dogs have the ability to work independently. They do not necessarily need the direct human orders every time, due to their intelligence levels, they can take a few decisions themselves.
The dogs of this breed are used most commonly for the purpose of herding sheep but they are also capable of herding animals like the cattle, goats and also horses. They are also sometimes used for the purpose of herding pigs. The average life expectancy of the dogs of this breed is said to be around a minimum of 12 years and a maximum of 15 years, that is, as long as they are perfectly healthy and they are groomed properly and given proper food and exercise. The weigh in at about a minimum of 35 pounds and a maximum of 40 pounds.
