Welsh Terrier

The dogs are quite similar to the Airedale terrier dogs but only differ in size. The Welsh terrier is slightly smaller in size as compared to the Airedale terrier. The dogs have a rather rectangular shaped heads. The muzzles of the dogs are such that is length is almost half the length of the head of the dog. This muzzle has the presence of a very slight stop. The set of teeth of the dog tend to meet to form a scissor bite. The dogs have a pair of small sized eyes. These eyes are almond in shape. They are set quite wide apart from each other. The pair of eyes of the dog are usually brown in color. The ears of the dogs are mostly shaped like a v. these ears are such that they are usually folded very slightly to the side as well the front of the head.

The two front legs are extremely straight in nature. The front legs along with being straight are also round in shape. The feet are quite cat like in nature. The size of the feet is rather small in nature. The back level of the dog is such that they form a very straight line. Declaws of the feet however, may or may not be removed. The tail of the dog is usually docked so as to make the level of the tail of the dog equally with the level of the head of the dog, that is, when the tail is raised. This is what gives the dog more of a square type of appearance. It should be noted that, even though the tails of the dogs are docked, docking of tails is still considered to be illegal in many countries across Europe.

The dogs are double coated dogs, that is, the dogs belonging to this breed have the presence of two different layers of coats. The upper layer is called as the outer layer or the upper layer and the layer of coat lying underneath this coat is called as the under coat or the inner coat. The under coat of the dogs are usually very soft in nature. The outer coat is quite different to the under coat, being hard, wiry and quite dense in nature. When the dog is normally looked at, t can be seen that they have the presence of rather bushy natured eye brows. Along with eye brows, even their moustaches and the beards are bushy in nature.

The coat colors of the dog may include tan and black and also grizzle with the presence of a black colored jacket like marking on the backs of the dogs. All the puppies of the dogs of this breed are born having a black colored coat, it is as they age that their coat color starts fading, but the jacket remains the same black. The maximum height allowed for the dogs of this breed is 15 inches. The dogs when fed properly and are healthy will weigh in at about 20 pounds to 21 pounds.
